“Blood Speaks”

Today’s 333 Devotional: “Blood Speaks”

While blood has no vocal cords, nor lungs to bring forth sound, it speaks louder than any human or angelic being. And Jesus’s blood speaks volumes if we would just listen.

Taking the chorus of “Nothing But The Blood,” Matt Redman adds a new refrain:

  • “Your blood speaks a better word
  • Than all the empty claims I’ve heard upon this earth
  • Speaks righteousness for me
  • And stands in my defense
  • Jesus it’s Your blood”

The writer of Hebrews tells us Jesus is the mediator of the new covenant, and his blood speaks better things than Abel’s (Hebrews 12:24).

Hebrews takes us back to Adam and Eve’s two sons, Cain and Able. Cain was jealous of his brother Abel because God accepted Abel’s sacrifice and not his. So, Cain murdered and buried Abel.

The Lord confronted Cain saying, “What have you done? The voice of your brother’s blood cries out to Me from the ground.” (Genesis 4:10)

And while Abel’s blood cried out for justice, the blood that Jesus shed upon the cross says, “Paid in full.”

Jesus’s blood speaks forgiveness saying, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.” (Luke 23:34)

Jesus also didn’t come into this world to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through Him (John 3:17).

Jesus’s blood speaks on behalf of sinners; but it doesn’t cry out for vengeance, but rather for mercy.

The blood of Jesus speaks better things than Abel’s because it speaks life, whereas Abel’s blood spoke death.

And while the blood shed by millions through war cries out for justice, the blood of Jesus speaks of reconciliation. It doesn’t demand justice but speaks of grace and mercy instead.

The blood of Jesus also speaks into our fallen condition. Our heredity and genetic makeup speak of illness and disease, but the blood of Jesus speaks healing and life.

So, let’s take the writer of Hebrew’s advice.

“See that you do not refuse Him who speaks.” (Hebrews 12:25a)
