Today’s 333 Devotional: “Morality is a Choice”
Jesus said, “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.” (Matthew 7:13-14)
There comes a choice we must make, and that is, what course in life will we choose, the one set forth in God’s word, which is the narrow way, or man’s way, which is the world’s, other religions, and society’s way, which is the wide way.
The problem with man’s way as opposed to God’s way is that man’s natural tendencies are towards evil. Even in the beginning God recognized that humanity left to itself without any guiding principles leads to continual evil.
“Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.” (Genesis 6:5)
The Bible says, “There is none righteous, no, not one … for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:12, 23)
The Apostle Paul is saying there is no one who does right, and everyone falls short of God’s holy and righteous standards for life.
So, God has written down in the Bible those guidelines for what is right and wrong, what is moral and what is immoral.
Jeremiah said, “Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.” (Jeremiah 6:16)
Everyone is at the crossroads and the choice is ours. We can choose the new morality of the world and of our day that says everything is permissible, or we can choose the ancient path, the path of God’s word, the highway of holiness, which brings both good along with rest to those who walk upon it.
