Thought for Today: “No Losers in Christ”
In the Guardians of the Galaxy movie Quill stands before the others and says, “I look around at us, and what I see is losers. I mean folks who have lost stuff … our homes, our families, normal lives.”
When I think about it, that is who we are as Christians. Not losers in the sense of being nothing, but losers as people who have lost family and friends for the sake of the gospel.
I remember when I became born again those that were my friends really didn’t want to be around me any longer. And most of my family was the same way.
But Jesus said that we’re not losers, but rather we’ve gained the greatest of all gifts.
“Everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life.” (Matthew 19:29)
And while we may have lost family and friends, we gained so much more. Jesus said we’ve gained an even greater family.
“‘Who is my mother, and who are my brothers?’ Pointing to his disciples, he said, ‘Here are my mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother.’” (Matthew 12:48-50)
So, while we are losers who have lost family and friends, we are winners who have gained a larger family and heaven as our new home.
