Today’s 333 Devotional: “Facing Our Giants”
Mark Twain said, “It’s not the size of the dog in the fight, it’s the size of the fight in the dog.”
While the world looks formidable, and the church somewhat anemic, what’s should be noted is that it’s not size that dictates the win, but rather it’s what’s in the heart of those who fight the battle.
As we approach the battle, we need to understand that it’s the Lord God within us, who is greater than all the forces the world can muster against us (1 John 4:4).
This lesson is taught throughout the Bible. It’s not the size of the army lined up against us, rather it’s our faith in the Lord God that ends up winning the day.
When David faced Goliath he said, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.” (1 Samuel 17:45)
The Lord said, “Do not be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God’s.” (2 Chronicles 20:15)
It’s not the church’s size or its possessions that defeats Satan and the world arrayed against it, but rather it’s the Lord who is in its midst.
The Psalmist said, “No king is saved by the size of his army; no warrior escapes by his great strength. A horse is a vain hope for deliverance; despite all its great strength it cannot save.” (Psalm 33:16-17)
He goes on to say that victory comes when we fear the Lord, when we hope in His unfailing love, then He is our help and shield in which we can trust and rejoice (Psalm 33:18-21).
He then ends with these words, “May Your unfailing love rest upon us, O Lord, even as we put our hope in You.” (Psalm 33:22)
The Lord said, “Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit.” (Zechariah 4:6)
