Today’s 333 Devotional: “No Understanding, Know Death”
Those who wander from the way of understanding, who wander away from God’s word and ways of God, then they may be as good as dead already.
This was Solomon’s summation saying, “A man who strays from the path of understanding comes to rest in the company of the dead.” (Proverbs 21:16)
When we stop trying to understand God’s word for our lives, when we no longer are seeking His wisdom, and when we wander from His wisdom and understanding then we’re in a very dangerous condition, and according to Solomon we’re as good as dead.
We will then begin to converse with only those who have likewise left or ignored God’s word and His understanding, and our conversations will be dead, because there is no life in them. We will be dead people talking about dead things.
To have understanding is to know the time is short, night is coming, the day of God’s grace is about to come to an end, and the Day of Judgment is about to begin. Those who then have this understanding need to get themselves ready by doing the works of God while it is still light.
The Apostle Paul said, “Do this, knowing the time, that it is already the hour for you to awaken from sleep; for now, salvation is nearer to us than when we believed. The night is almost gone, and the day is near. Therefore, let us lay aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.” (Romans 13:11-12)
No matter what happens in life, we must never forsake the way and wisdom of God, nor should we stop trying to understand and comprehend His word. It’s deadly to stop looking at God’s word and wisdom.
But there is hope, and that is, we serve an all-powerful and all-sufficient Savior, Jesus Christ, who is “the Light of the world,” (John 9:5), and as that light, He will light the way for us to walk.
