Thought For Today: “No Fruit Without Roots”
Gardeners will tell you not to expect fruit from the trees you plant until several years have passed. The reason is because the tree needs time to spread its roots, and the deeper the roots the better the fruit.
Our problem is we want fruit right away. This is true for our spiritual lives as well. Like any child we want maturity before we grow up. But maturity takes time and deep roots.
After we’ve been planted, after we accept Jesus as our Savior and Lord, we need to grow our roots down into the Lord and His word. We need to our roots to reach the abundant waters of the Holy Spirit.
“It was beautiful in greatness and in the length of its branches, because its roots reached to abundant waters.” (Ezekiel 31:7)
Therefore, let’s start tapping our roots into God and His word, so that we can then tap into the rivers of living waters of the Holy Spirit, and receive nourishment from God and His word so we will have that abundant fruit.
Jesus said, “By their fruits you will know them.” (Matthew 7:20)
