Thought For Today: “It’s Not How Long, But How Well”
“Lord, make me to know my end, and what is the measure of my days, that I may know how frail I am.” (Psalm 39:4)
David wasn’t asking God for the date of his death; rather to reveal just how little our time on the earth really is. David goes on to answer saying that human age is nothing compared to how well we live the life we’ve been given.
“And now, Lord, what do I wait for? My hope is in You.” (Psalm 39:7)
For David it’s all about the quality of the life we live as opposed to the quantity of our days. David realized it’s all about a life lived in expectation of God, as compared to a life lived for self. And so, David asks to be delivered from such nonsense and from the sin as a result thereof.
The life we live is in preparation for the life that is to come. Therefore, every day should be lived with our hope centered in God, because every day lived in the Lord is a day that is rich and full.
