Wooing To The Wilderness

Today’s 333 Devotional: “Wooing To The Wilderness”

The wilderness is not a place any of us want to go. It’s a place where nobody else is, and there’s nobody’s around to help. It’s a place where if it could go wrong, it will. It’s a place of pain and suffering. It’s the place where we think God is not.

The wilderness is not a place where we would go willingly, not with all the negatives this place emotes.

But the wilderness is where God wants us. It’s the one place where He can speak to us without any other distractions. It’s the one place where the world’s voice is drowned out by silence, and only God’s voice is present. It’s the place where we learn to trust God completely. It’s the place where we actually learn to love God with the whole of our being.

In short, the wilderness is God’s plan, and it’s the place where God woos us to come.

“Therefore, I am now going to allure her; I will lead her into the desert and speak tenderly to her.” (Hosea 2:14)

It’s the place where God speaks to us with tenderness and compassion. It’s in the wilderness where God wants to speak to our hearts and comfort us.

It was to the wilderness that God brought the Israelites. God’s purpose for the wilderness wasn’t just to bring them to the Promise Land, it was also a place where they could get to know God and have a greater level of intimacy with Him.

“They will know that I am the Lord their God, who brought them out of Egypt so that I might dwell among them. I am the Lord their God.” (Exodus 29:46)

It was in the wilderness where they got to know God, and that God now dwelt with them. It was in the wilderness where they became completely dependent upon God and learned to lean on Him.

“He turns a wilderness into pools of water, and dry land into water springs.” (Psalm 107:35)
