Thought For Today: “A Surer Word”
When Peter and John went to the tomb it says they went in and saw the burial linen, but the body wasn’t there. It goes on to say that when John entered, he saw and believed, although full understanding had not yet been given to them.
“They still did not understand from Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead.” (John 20:9)
They saw and believed, but to us, we have something better, God’s sure word.
Of the Messiah, King David said, “You will not abandon me to the realm of the dead, nor will you let your faithful one see decay.” (Psalm 16:10)
It was this very Psalm that Peter used on the day of Pentecost showing how God had prophesied Jesus’s death and resurrection. (Acts 2:24-32)
The Prophet Isaiah said that while the Messiah will suffer and die that He will again see the light of life. (Isaiah 53:10-11)
So, while we may not have physically seen the empty tomb, we know that Jesus rose from the dead not only from those who witnessed it, but also from God’s sure word of prophecy.
To Thomas who doubted Jesus said, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” (John 20:29)
