A Scent of Hope
September 20, 2022

A Scripture and a Prayer: “A Scent of Hope”

“For there is hope for a tree, if it is cut down, that it will sprout again, and that its tender shoots will not cease. Though its root may grow old in the earth, and its stump may die in the ground, yet at the scent of water it will bud and bring forth branches like a plant.” (Job 14:7-9)

Lord, with all that is going on in our world today, it seems like there is nothing left, and that the church is far from what You had planted in the beginning. But then I read this promise of hope from Job, who lost everything, but like Abraham, beyond all hope, in hope he believed. Holy Spirit, I humbly ask for the scent of Your rain to come into the church, and that a downpour of Your presence would fill Your people and cover the land. For we do not hope in vain, but our hope is in You. Therefore, may Your living waters pour out from heaven and into our souls this day so that we can be that planting of Yours that brings for Your good fruit that provides grace and mercy to a world and to a church that is in such desperate need of You. And this I ask in Jesus’s name. AMEN
