Thought For Today: “The Church’s Great Need”
Our supreme longing should be for a return of God’s glory to our sanctuary. By our prayers and actions, we should be inviting the Holy Spirit’s presence in our times of gathering, whether in person or on-line, as when the Holy Spirit descended both in the first temple, and then at Pentecost at the foundation of the church.
“When Solomon had finished praying, fire came down from heaven and consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of the Lord filled the temple…When all the children of Israel saw how the fire came down, and the glory of the Lord on the temple, they bowed their faces to the ground on the pavement, and worshiped and praised the Lord, saying: “For He is good, For His mercy endures forever.’” (2 Chronicles 7:1-3)
“When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” (Acts 2:1-4)
If we do not invite the Holy Spirit’s presence and continue in a way that is displeasing to the Lord, then we may very well experience the Holy Spirit’s departure.
“And the glory of the Lord went up from the midst of the city and stood on the mountain, which is on the east side of the city.” (Ezekiel 11:23)
We need an injection of godliness back into the church. Maybe then we’ll begin to see a move of the Holy Spirit and revival taking place.
