Today’s 333 Devotional: “Weary Yet Pursuing”
Life continually shows up and soon we find ourselves weary wanting nothing more than to give up. Ministry, heck, we have precious little time as it is, and we need to rest, not go to church, or do ministry.
Gideon and his 300-man army knew what it meant to be weary. They had just defeated Midian and instead of resting on their accomplishment they pursued them. Even though they were bone tired they still pursued and weren’t going to let this opportunity slip through their fingers, tired or not.
The Bible says, “Gideon and the 300 men who were with him came to the Jordan and crossed over, weary yet pursuing.” (Judges 8:4)
They were going to finish what they started. They weren’t going to quit before it was done. It wasn’t easy or comfortable; rather it was dangerous and difficult. Yet they kept on going.
Being a disciple of Jesus Christ isn’t easy; in fact, it is filled with trials and tribulations, either designed by Satan to discourage us, or the Lord God to test us. And in these times, we may be tempted to quit, to give up, or it’s just too tiring to continue.
And ministry is no different, yet each of us has been called by God to be faithful to the end. The question is, will we keep going? Although weary will we still pursue? In His parable of the persistent widow, Jesus asked, “When the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on the earth?” (Luke 18:8)
Yes, we are weary, but we must continue to be faithful until the end. The Apostle Paul said, “Let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary.” (Galatians 6:9)
When you’re weary, lean on the grace of God, and He’ll give you the strength to continue, because it is in these times of weakness that God’s strength will come through (2 Corinthians 12:9-10).
