Today’s 333 Devotional: “God’s Word is Life”
The Bible isn’t just something you read and then forget; it’s real help for real life.
After Moses had given the people God’s word he said, “Take to heart all the words I have given you today. Pass them on as a command to your children so they will obey every word of this law. These instructions are not mere words — they are your life! By obeying them you will enjoy a long life in the land you are crossing the Jordan River to occupy.” (Deuteronomy 23:46-47)
The Bible isn’t man’s idea of how to live; rather it’s God’s word that gives life. Solomon said, “Do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart, for they will prolong your life many years and bring you prosperity.” (Proverbs 3:1-2)
This applies not only to our lives here on earth, but to our eternal lives as well.
“Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city.” (Revelation 22:14)
We can continue to allow the Bible to sit around our house gathering dust and being just another unread book, or we can make it a vital part of our lives by daily setting time aside to read and study it, allowing God’s wisdom to become ours.
The Bible is God’s word, and it is the only book that continues to give increasing insight of God’s plan and purpose for those who believe. It convicts us of where we fall short of God’s purposes and encourages us as to God’s grace and strength that is available to help us change our lives to the life He’s planned.
“Give attention to my words; incline your ear to my sayings. Do not let them depart from your eyes; keep them in the midst of your heart; for they are life to those who find them, and health to all their flesh.” (Proverbs 4:20-22)
