Today’s 333 Devotional: “Following God’s Commandments”
When we fully follow God’s commandments, then God’s glory will be revealed.
This was brought out when Moses commanded Aaron to offer up the sacrifices to God. These were the first sacrifices offered by Aaron as the high priest.
“This is the thing which the Lord commanded you to do, and the glory of the Lord will appear to you.” (Leviticus 9:6)
Aaron was told to go to the altar and offer for himself the sin and burnt offering, and then was he to offer up the atonement offerings for the people. When Aaron and his sons followed the Lord’s commandments God’s glory was revealed for everyone to see as fire came down from the Lord and consumed the offering. And all the people bowed down giving glory to God.
There are two things that spoke to me through this passage of Scripture.
First, we need to daily pray and confess our own sins and only then are we to intercede on behalf of others, that is, pray for them. Only then will we see God’s glory revealed.
Second, we need to follow God’s commandments fully. We need to be obedient to God’s word, His way, and His will. God will then confirm each of our perspective ministries the same way He did for Aaron.
If we don’t then we’ll be Aaron’s two sons, Nadab and Abihu, who did things their way, and not God’s way. They were giving the appearance of godliness, but it was considered as strange fire before God, that is, it was a way and method not prescribed by God (Leviticus 10:1-3).
And fire again came down from God, but this time it didn’t consume their sacrifice, rather it consumed them.
We have to be careful not to proceed in the things of God by what feels right or looks righteous. If it doesn’t line up with God’s word, then it’s false fire no matter how we feel. Instead, we’re to fully follow God’s commandments.
