Thought For Today: “Bible Checking”
What does God Word say?
This should be the first thing on our minds when we’re faced with any issue, whether it deals with something devastating, or when we need to answer some issue of life or what is going on in the world around us.
I have found way too many people, even Christians who read something on the internet, in a book, or even hear someone of authority give some fact or statement, and then, without the slightest thought, repeat it as something to be believed as true.
But this was not the case with a group of believers in the city of Berea. When the Apostle Paul started sharing with the gospel message, they took him to task and checked the Scriptures to see if what he was saying was true and right.
You see, the only truth is God’s, and His word speaks to every situation that we encounter. The Psalmist said, “The sum of Your word is truth, and every one of Your righteous ordinances is everlasting.” (Psalm 119:160)
And because of the Berean’s faithfulness to God’s word, they were commended.
In Acts 17:11 it says, “Now these (the Bereans) were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so.”
Therefore, let’s be more like the Bereans and check out whatever we hear and see by the truth of God’s word.
