Thought For Today: “God’s in the Restoration Business”
To restore means to bring something back to fullness or wholeness. In some instances, it means to reinstate. And this is what God does for us, as we have been broken, not only by our own sin, but by what others have said or done to us.
In other words, God takes broken people, that is, you and me, and makes them (us) whole, so we don’t need to fear brokenness that we might remain in that state for the rest of our lives.
The Lord brings this out through the prophet Isaiah in a very beautiful promise. He said, “A bruised reed He will not break, and smoking flax He will not quench; He will bring forth justice for truth.” (Isaiah 42:3)
That is, those bent over by the trials of life, God will make once again straight, and those whose spiritual lives are about to be snuffed out, God will reignite.
The Lord went on to say, “I will bring the blind by a way they did not know; I will lead them in paths they have not known. I will make darkness light before them, and crooked places straight. These things I will do for them, and not forsake them.” (Isaiah 42:16)
Therefore, when we’ve been hurt through sin or through the careless words and deeds of others, we need not fear, because God will repair what has been broken inside and will reignite what is now barely an ember. And that is because, God is in the business of restoring lives, but not to the old way of life, but to a new way as He make all things new through Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17).
