Thought For Today: “The Wounds of God’s Love”
All of us carry wounds from our past. Not just the wounds of betrayal and abuse, but the wounds of love. Wounds that we want to forget, but wounds that are needed. These are wounds that God allows and even inflicts to remind us about His love and not to stray too far from it.
Such was Jacob’s wound when he wrestled with God at the river Jabbok. Jacob wrestled with God for His blessing and protection, and as a reminder of this time, God touched Jacob’s hip socket and he walked with a limp from that time forward.
“Jacob was left alone; and a Man wrestled with him until the breaking of day. Now when He saw that He did not prevail against him, He touched the socket of his hip; and the socket of Jacob’s hip was out of joint as He wrestled with him … you have struggled with God and with men, and have prevailed.” (Genesis 32:24-28)
In the wounds we face in this life, Jesus is right there beside us reaching out to help, carry, and encourage us. Yes, the wounds hurt, but that’s so we can remember and be comforted knowing that our heavenly Father loves us so much that He disciplines us in His love.
“Do not make light of the Lord’s discipline, and do not lose heart when he rebukes you, because the Lord disciplines those he loves.” (Hebrews 12:5-6a)
