Deliverance: It’s Not Always From

Thought For Today: “Deliverance: It’s Not Always From”

When we think of God’s deliverance we think of the great Exodus where through 10 plagues God delivered the Jews from their Egyptian captivity.

This is the type of deliverance we want, hope for, and desire.

But God’s deliverance involves more than just deliverance from, but also deliverance through. Jesus’s prayer for us is not to be delivered from this world, but that God would delivered us from Satan and bring us through the darkness and into the light.

“I do not pray that You should take them out of the world, but that You should keep them from the evil one.” (John 17:15)

The Apostle Paul prayed three times to be delivered from a thorn in the flesh, but God had another deliverance in mind.

“Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me. And He said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.’” (2 Corinthians 12:8-9)

Therefore, while we pray for God to deliver us from the storms, we should be praying for God’s will, which may not be a deliverance from, but deliverance through.
