Blessed Are

Thought for Today: “Blessed Are”

Whenever we bless others, saying, “God bless,” we’re asking God to help and strengthen them in all the good that God has for them, as well as for others. In essence, we’re asking for God’s divine favor to be poured out upon them.

To be blessed in the Greek language means to be happy. But Walter Bauer in his Greek-English Lexicon also defines those who are blessed by God as being “privileged recipient of divine favor.”

In the Hebrew language the word for blessed not only means to be happy, but also it means, “to go straight.”

Happy, therefore, are those blessed by God because they are the privileged recipients of His divine favor because they are living their lives in accordance with God’s word.

The Psalmist says, “Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the Lord! Blessed are those who keep His testimonies, who seek Him with the whole heart!” (Psalm 119:1-2)

And so, God blesses those who are then walking in His ways and according to His word, and because they do they are participants of His favor.
