Whom Shall We Serve

Today’s 333 Devotional: “Whom Shall We Serve”

Whom we serve determines our destiny.

“Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?” (Romans 6:16)

When we come to belief in Jesus Christ we are no longer serve to sin and its desires, and that’s because we’re no longer slaves to sin. Instead, we have become slaves of righteousness. Therefore, the Apostle Paul tells us to no longer offer up or turn ourselves over to the sinful desires of the flesh, but rather we are to separate ourselves from such desires because we are servants of God and of His righteousness.

“For just as you presented your members as slaves of uncleanness, and of lawlessness leading to more lawlessness, so now present your members as slaves of righteousness for holiness.” (Romans 6:19)

And so, we are to start to serve God with the same energy and degree of fervency as when we served sin. Therefore, let’s become those willing servant of Jesus Christ, and let the righteousness of God enslave us.

“For if you are willing to suffer for Christ, you have decided to stop sinning. And you won’t spend the rest of your life chasing after evil desires, but you will be anxious to do the will of God. You have had enough in the past of the evil things that godless people enjoy.” (1 Peter 4:1b-3a)

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.” (Romans 12:1-2)
