Thought For Today: “No Greater Work”

When Jehoshaphat took over as king of Judah, he strengthened himself against the advances of ungodly Israel by reinforcing the cities and building garrisons throughout the land.

He also walked in the former ways of King David, his heart took delight in the ways of the Lord, and he removed all the high places of false worship in the land. Because of this God was with him, and fear fell upon all the surrounding nations.

While He did a lot of good, the greatest good was appoint Levites to go throughout the land teaching God’s word. This is what brought success and prosperity back to the land.

“(Jehoshaphat) sent Levites…So they taught in Judah, and had the Book of the Law of the Lord with them; they went throughout all the cities of Judah and taught the people. And the fear of the Lord fell on all the kingdoms of the lands that were around Judah, so that they did not make war against Jehoshaphat.” (2 Chronicles 17:9-10)

While Jehoshaphat strengthened Judah in a physical sense, the greatest work came when he strengthened Judah spiritually.

No better service can be rendered to our nation than the proclamation of God’s word. Only then will the heart of the people be turned to God, and we will once again be a nation that others look up to, because the fear of the Lord is here.
