Thought For Today: “The Prison of Pride”
“But after Uzziah became powerful, his pride led to his downfall. He was unfaithful to the Lord his God, and entered the temple of the Lord to burn incense on the altar of incense.” (2 Chronicles 26:16)
Uzziah was a remarkable king. He distinguished himself early by doing what is right in the sight of God. He sought the Lord and the Lord prospered him.
But all this success went to his head. Success has a way of doing that, and once we begin to think independently of God word, disaster isn’t far behind unless there is repentance and a return to God.
“Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.” (Proverbs 16:18)
Uzziah developed a prideful heart because of his great success, and he thought he was greater than God’s word, and so he took upon himself the role of the high priest, which was directly against God’s word, and the Lord struck him with leprosy.
In the end he became a prisoner, but Uzziah’s prison wasn’t made of brick and mortar; it was made of pride.
