Today’s 333 Devotional: “Peace With God” (2)

What does it mean to have peace with God?

The Apostle Paul said, “Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Romans 5:1)

To have peace with God is something that the human race has strived for from the very beginning when Adam and Eve sinned in the garden, thus making the human race, and the Lord God, enemies.

That’s right, we became God’s enemies because of our sin. Look at what the Apostle Paul said to the Colossians Church.

Paul said, “You, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works.” (Colossians 1:21)

Or to the church in Rome, Paul said, “For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son.” (Romans 5:10a)

But humanity can have peace with God through what Jesus did for us on the cross as Paul goes on to say in his letter to the Colossians.

“Yet now He has reconciled in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight.” (Colossians 1:21b-22)

And so, peace with God is possible through faith in Jesus Christ.

Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” (John 14:27)

The peace Jesus gives isn’t the same thing as worldly peace. Worldly peace is a cessation of fighting, and that only lasts for a short time, whereas peace with God is eternal, and it is all about having our relationship with God restored, where we are no longer alienated and separated from God.

Instead, we’ve been accepted by God and delivered from the wrath of His upcoming judgment.

This is the peace that passes all understanding and the peace that will guard your hearts and minds, and it is through Jesus Christ (Philippians 4:7).
