Thought For Today: “Praying by Faith”
Elijah was a human being, even as we are. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years (James 5:17). And then, after he prayed and fire came down from heaven and consumed the sacrifice upon Mount Carmel, he told Ahab to hurry back, because he said there was the sound of heavy rain even though there wasn’t a cloud in the say, but after praying, the sky grew black with clouds, and a heavy rain fell (1 Kings 18)
The key, however, is that what James said, that Elijah was no different than you or me, except he prayed by faith.
The Apostle James also said, “But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.” (James 1:6-7)
To the prophet Isaiah, the Lord said, “Who will go for us,” and Isaiah said, “Here am I send me.” (Isaiah 6:8)
Both Elijah and Isaiah were men of faith, prayer, and of God’s word.
And while there has been those who cry out, “Where are the Elijah’s and Isaiah’s of God?” The answer is they are here, they are us, we just have to believe, and by faith pray and obey.
