Thought For Today: “No BOGO”
BOGO is an acronym for “Buy-One-Get-One” free. It is used in sales promotions and means that when you buy something at full price, you can get the second one free. It’s a way to encourage more sales of a product, usually when the product isn’t selling all that well.
But thinking about this acronym, I realize that there is no BOGO, that is, there’s no Buy-One-Get-One free in God’s kingdom. And that’s because heaven and an eternity with God is a gift, which means that it is free, and it’s completely free by faith.
The Bible says, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” (Ephesians 2:8-9)
And then in Isaiah 55:1, the prophet says, “Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost.”
But it’s not free because it didn’t cost anything. Our salvation and heaven were purchased for us by Jesus through his death upon the cross.
The Bible says that we have been bought at a price (2 Corinthians 6:20; 7:23), and that price wasn’t cheap.
Ephesians 1:7 says, “In Him (Jesus) we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace.”
And so, let’s give all glory and honor to Jesus Christ who paid our way.
