Today’s Devotional: “Our Promised Resurrection”
Tomorrow is April 1st, or what is known as “April Fool’s Day.” And with Easter, or Resurrection Sunday right around the corner, I think it’s foolhardy not believe in the resurrection of Jesus Christ, because it’s the promise of our resurrection.
Once this life is over, our bodies will go the way of the earth, but our spirits go directly to be with God.
The Bible speaks of this reality through what the Apostle Paul said.
“For we know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens … We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.” (2 Corinthians 5:1, 7)
But the promise is that one day our bodies will reunite with our spirits.
“For since we believe that Jesus died and was raised to life again, we also believe that when Jesus returns, God will bring back with him the believers who have died.” (1 Thessalonians 4:14)
It is what is known as the Rapture as Paul goes on to describe.
“For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.” (1 Thessalonians 4:16-18)
Jesus promised this reunion saying, “If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” (John 14:3)
In fact, this was His promise when He raised Lazarus from the dead.
“I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.” (John 11:25-26)
