Today’s 333 Devotional: “Faith that Moves Mountains”
“And the apostles said to the Lord, ‘Increase our faith.’” (Luke 17:5)
We want God to increase our faith so we can do great works. We want to be like those listed in God’s Hall of Faith.
“Who through faith subdued kingdoms, worked righteousness, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, out of weakness were made strong, became valiant in battle, turned to flight the armies of the aliens.” (Hebrews 11:33-34)
We want to do great things, but Jesus tells us that the type of faith that pleases God, the type of faith the apostles prayed for, is the faith that began in the heart and changed them from the inside out.
Jesus said, “He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much.” (Luke 16:10a)
Like the disciples we want to move directly to the big stuff of faith, because it gratifies our flesh. But the reality is that this is the least in God’s eyes. And the reason is because no matter how great the work may be, unless the hidden matters of the heart are dealt with, then these others will fail.
What are these hidden matters of heart? They are the matters of our own sin. God wants us to be faithful with what He has given before anymore will be offered.
So, what has God already given that we need to be faithful in?
Our salvation. It’s a free gift given to us by God (Ephesians 2:8-9). So, what have we done with it?
The Apostle Paul said, “For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)
This is the muster seed faith that will see mountains moved. And please know that all those listed in God’s Hall of Faith, they began with this hidden work of the heart before the greater stuff was accomplished.
