It’s Not Rocket Science

Today’s 333 Devotional: “It’s Not Rocket Science”

The idiom “It’s not rocket science,” means that something isn’t as difficult as it may seem, nor is it complicated to understand.

It comes from the development of the first rockets in America, where it was generally accepted that rocket development was too hard and outside the intellectual capabilities of the “average Joe.”

But when it comes to God’s word, the Bible, its understanding is not beyond any of us.
God’s word, and the blessings it brings, is not some mysterious set of instructions that only the initiated can interpret for the rest of us “average Joes.” God’s word also isn’t so far-fetched it cannot be understood and followed.

“For this commandment which I command you today is not too mysterious for you, nor is it far off.” (Deuteronomy 30:11)

Rather God’s word is written in a language and in a way that can be understood by everyone.

“But the word is very near you, in your mouth and in your heart, that you may do it.” (Deuteronomy 30:14)

But the understanding of God’s word all hinges upon a choice. Understanding God’s word boils down to a choice we all have to make, and the Lord is placing that choice in front of us today.

“See, I have set before you today life and good, death and evil … I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore, choose life, that both you and your descendants may live.” (Deuteronomy 30:15, 19)

When you choose to love God enough to obey His word, then He’ll be your life and your length of days. He will also give you the good and pleasant land to live in, a land flowing with His blessings, and that is His Promised Land.
