Today’s Devotional: “Humanity’s Greatest Need”
Even with the potential of war between Russia and Ukraine, and the potential of China’s invasion of Taiwan, it is really the existence of God that is probably the most important topic or issue facing our crazy mixed-up world.
Now, that’s a heck of a statement considering all the horrific acts of violence and terrorism we’re seeing, along with all the wars that are either happening or that are on the verge of happening, not to mention the increase of deadly diseases rampaging across the globe, or the potential collapse of economies around the world.
But all of these pales in comparison to humanity’s greatest need, and that is, its search and need for God. This is infinity more important than everything else.
The writer of Hebrews says that not only does God exist, but He also rewards those who diligently seek Him by faith.
“Without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.” (Hebrews 11:6)
Therefore, it’s foolish to say there is no God, which was the assessment of the Psalmist saying, “The fool has said in his heart, ‘There is no God.’” (Psalm 14:1a)
A fool is someone who literally doesn’t think. They say and do things with little thought, especially when it comes to their eternal existence. They have bought into the lie that their actions have no eternal consequences.
This is why seeking after God is the most important issue facing humanity today, because it deals with the eternity of the soul and spirit where everything else deals with humanity’s present existence, which is like a vapor that soon perishes.
The Psalmist goes on to say, “The Lord looks down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there are any who understand, who seek God.” (Psalm 14:2)
To seek God is the most important need of humanity today, which is why our responsibility as Christians is so important, which is to go and make disciples, teaching them to obey Jesus commands (Matthew 28:19-20).
Belief in the Lord God of the Bible is therefore humanity’s greatest need.
