Thought For Today: “Our Approach To God”
Far too often we approach God way too casually not considering we’re approaching the Lord God who is holy and righteous.
This was the attitude of Aaron’s sons, Nadab and Abihu, who went before the Lord to offer incense to the Lord. It seemed, however, they didn’t do it according to the way put forth by God. It seemed that they were far too casual in their offering.
It says, “Then Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, each took his censer and put fire in it, put incense on it, and offered profane fire before the Lord, which He had not commanded them. So fire went out from the Lord and devoured them, and they died before the Lord.” (Leviticus 10:1-2)
By the instructions given to Aaron directly following this incident, it seems they were somewhat intoxicated. The Lord said, “Do not drink wine or intoxicating drink, you, nor your sons with you, when you go into the tabernacle of meeting, lest you die.” (Leviticus 20:9a)
To come before God, we must humble ourselves and approach the Lord in total reference and then ready our hearts to listen.
When Moses approached the Lord, God said, “Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground.” (Exodus 3:5)
