Expend It All

Thought For Today: “Expend It All”

In the lifestyles of the rich and famous, life always seems to be lived above and beyond, and it’s expended all upon pleasure.

I recently read about Billionaire Jeff Bezo’s super-sized yacht. It’s so big it needs a support yacht. I guess that when you have a net worth of about 200 billion, a 550 million super yacht with its own support yacht is no big deal.

This got me thinking about Solomon, the richest man ever, and one who makes Bezo seem like a pauper, had it all, great houses, land, flocks, servants to numerous to mention, and had amassed a literal fortune including the treasures of kings and princes from other lands. He said, “I denied myself nothing my eyes desired; I refused my heart no pleasure.” (Ecclesiastes 2:10)

And yet with having and expending it all he came up with this conclusion, “Everything was meaningless, a chasing after the wind; nothing was gained under the sun.” (Ecclesiastes 2:11b)

It seems that enough it never too much.

But such extravagance is never wasted on Jesus. Jesus gave His all. Is it too much to ask that we expend our all on Jesus?

“A woman came having an alabaster flask of very costly oil of spikenard. Then she broke the flask and poured it on His head … Let her alone. Why do you trouble her? She has done a good work for Me.” (Mark 14:3b, 6)

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.” (Romans 12:1)
