Is the Spirit Stirring?
February 1, 2022

Thought For Today: “Is the Spirit Stirring?”

“So the Lord stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the governor, and the spirit of Joshua the high priest, and the spirit of the people; and they came and worked on the house of the Lord.” (Haggai 1:14 paraphrased)

The people of Judah started out strong after they returned from their Babylonian captivity. But, over time, they started to get complacent and content with the way things were rather than what they Lord wanted.

And so, the Lord sent the prophet Haggai to wake them up.

“‘Is it time for you yourselves to dwell in your paneled houses, and this temple to lie in ruins?’ Now therefore, thus says the Lord of hosts: ‘Consider your ways! You have sown much, and bring in little; you eat, but do not have enough; you drink, but you are not filled with drink; you clothe yourselves, but no one is warm; and he who earns wages, earns wages to put into a bag with holes.” (Haggai 1:4-6)

Through this COVID pandemic we’ve seen many leave the church to sit at home and watch it on the Internet. And now that the churches have opened their doors, what we are seeing is many who have become comfortable in living out their faith behind closed doors.

The writer of Hebrews tells us not to forsake assembling with others of the faith, as some are doing, but instead getting together and exhorting once another in our shared belief seeing that the Day of the Lord is coming.

Therefore, it’s never time to sit content in life. Instead, we must be about the job of building God’s kingdom.
