Practice What We Preach

Thought For Today: “Practice What We Preach”

The phrase, “Practice What You Preach” is given in response to someone who is being hypocritical, telling people how to live their lives, or what to do, while they end up living and doing the exact opposite.

Jesus came against this sort of thing by the Jewish religious leaders, whom Jesus said didn’t practice what they preached to others.

He said, “The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. So you must obey them and do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach. They tie up heavy loads and put them on men’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them.” (Matthew 23:2-4)

It is this kind of “do-as-I-say-not-as-I-do” behavior that fuels mistaken ideas by those outside the faith about who God is and the sacrifice Jesus made to set all who believe free.

Therefore, when we tell people about Jesus, let’s live it out at the same time. Otherwise, we do more harm than good.
