Thought for Today: “Being Overcomers”
As believers in Jesus Christ, we don’t need to live a defeated existence due to the temptations that continue to hound us, and the sin the so easily besets us (Hebrews 12:1).
If we are being overrun with these temptations and sins, we need only to turn to God’s word and allow God’s strength to be ours and then we’ll be overcomers.
In 1 John 2:14 the Apostle John said, “I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the wicked one.” (1 John 2:14)
And what we read in God’s word is that we are overcomers because of our faith in Jesus Christ.
The Apostle John says, “For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world–our faith. Who is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God” (1 John 5:4-5)
And the reason is because Jesus overcame.
Jesus said, “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)
The Apostle Paul gives us this assurance.
“Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:37-39)
