A Christmas Thought: “The Meaning of Christmas”
The story of Christmas is quickly losing its meaning, the very heart of why it is even celebrated if it hasn’t already.
The fundamental message of Christmas isn’t peace on earth goodwill to men, although that is a by-product of it, the fundamental message of Christmas is that God sent forth His Son to take our place and die our death so that we can have peace with Him.
“For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” (Isaiah 9:6)
And so, in the fullness of time, God sent for His Son, Jesus, to redeem us and bring us into His family, calling us His children, and where we can call God our Father.
“But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!” (Galatians 4:4-6)
And Jesus brings this message of Christmas to us today.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16)
