Thought for Today: “What The Church Needs”
I remember that song from Dionne Warwick, “What the World Needs Now.” And what song goes on to answer is “Love, sweet love. It’s the only thing that there’s just too little of … no, not just for some but for everyone.”
And this is true certainly for the church.
Jesus said, “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” (John 13:34-35)
Jesus actually said that this is the way we show out love for God, giving it as the second command in the Great Command to love God, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” (Mark 12:31)
And while this is absolutely necessary, it cannot be accomplished without having a fresh encounter with the Holy Spirit, and with Jesus Christ.
What the church needs more than anything else is a fresh encounter with the living God.
“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.” (Revelation 3:20)
