Thought For Today: “God’s Not Into Religion”
Religion is basically a set of beliefs and practices that have been agreed and adhered to by a group of people. They revolve mostly around the existence of a divine being and contain a code of moral behavior by which humanity is to conduct themselves.
Unfortunately, this has become the case with Christianity. But God doesn’t fit His ways into our religious forms and rituals. Instead, He asks us to follow Him.
This has been the way from the beginning as God walked with Adam and Eve in fellowship. We also see that Abraham was called God’s friend, and Moses would speak with God face to face.
And this is no different in our relationship with Jesus Christ. Jesus doesn’t call us to follow a set of religious rules, instead, He calls us to follow Him.
“If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me.” (Luke 9:23)
And so, when we’re tempted to start placing rules upon ourselves and upon others as to how we are to follow Jesus, let’s realize that while God has set His standard in His word, many of our interpretations may not be what He intended.
The Lord said, “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways … For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:8-9)
