Today’s Thought: “It’s Not A Numbers Game”
In the film, Forrest Gump, Forrest offers a woman a chocolate saying, “My momma always said, ‘Life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.’”
How many days we have left to live is anybody’s guess. Doctors will say that someone has 6 months or a year to live only to find them living many years beyond that. And then there are those who hear that they are healthy as a horse only to die a couple of days later.
The truth is that no one knows what tomorrow may bring, and therefore we need to make sure we’re set for eternity.
Quoting from Isaiah 49:8, Paul brings out this truth from God, that there is no better day than today for a person to get themselves right with Him, because no one is guaranteed tomorrow.
“For He says: ‘In an acceptable time I have heard you, and in the day of salvation I have helped you.’ Behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.” (2 Corinthians 6:2)
Understanding this, Moses asked the Lord to help in this endeavor. He said, “Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” (Psalm 90:12)
Asking God to help us number our days is not a game; nor is our life on earth dictated by random chance; rather it’s a sure bet, therefore let’s live on purpose.
