Thought For Today: “Salvation Through God’s Grace”
“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8).
In a nutshell, Paul is saying that God’s grace is free, which is totally opposite of the way most people think. Most believe that they can get to heaven by being good or doing their best; that somehow their good deeds will in the end outweigh the bad.
But this is completely opposite of God’s plan of salvation. God says that it is a free gift, and if it is a gift, it cannot be earned or worked for.
“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.” (Ephesians 3:8-9)
And so, God’s grace is His giving to us what we do not deserve. We deserve death, as the Scripture says, “The wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23a). But God’s grace gives to us eternal life, as it goes on to say, “But the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23b).
What a wonderful promise God’s gift of salvation is!
