Jesus, Our Beginning and End

Today’s 333 Devotional: “Jesus, Our Beginning and End”

“And Samuel took a suckling lamb and offered it as a whole burnt offering to the Lord. Then Samuel cried out to the Lord for Israel, and the Lord answered him.” (1 Samuel 7:9)

The spiritual significance of this verse and what happened at this time cannot be overlooked, nor dare we overlook it, because it is the victory God provides for us today.

The Philistines were about to attack the children of Israel at Mizpah where they had gathered to worship and repent of their sins. So, they cried out to Samuel to pray that the Lord would save and deliver them from certain death.

Samuel then offered up a lamb in sacrifice along with a prayer of deliverance, and the Lord answered with loud thundering that sent the Philistines into complete confusion and Israel routed them all the way to Beth Car (1 Samuel 7:11).

It is in this unassuming story that God provides for us the victory over our enemy, Satan. Please notice that the victory began with the sacrifice of the lamb and ended in the house of the lamb.

When John the Baptist saw Jesus he said, “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes way the sin of the world!” (John 1:19)

Jesus is that sacrifice. He is the Lamb of God and the Rock of our salvation.

Further, it says they fought the battle all the way to Beth Car, which in the Hebrew means, “The house of the lamb.”

The rout of our enemy, Satan, begins at the cross, where Jesus, the Lamb of God, sacrificed His life for our sin. It begins when we accept that sacrifice, asking Jesus to come into our hearts to save and deliver us, and the Lord then shouts from heaven and routs Satan.

And here is the really neat part; God continues the rout of Satan all the way to Beth Car, the house of the lamb, that is, heaven where he has gone to prepare that place for us (John 14:3).
