Thought for Today: “Jousting With Sin’s Windmills”
Don Quixote of La Mancha, by Miguel de Cervantes, is the story of a Spanish nobleman who loses his mind and decides to revive chivalry and to serve his Spain. Unfortunately, he lost his battle against a windmill.
Now, while we haven’t lost our minds, we like Don Quixote are doing battle and jousting with sin’s windmills, and we’re in the same way losing the battle. But instead of jousting with sin’s windmills, we need to seek God who already defeated them.
And God did so through His Son, Jesus Christ, who jousted with sin upon the cross and won the day when He rose from the dead.
“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)
“Therefore, brethren, we have an obligation—but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it. For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live.” (Romans 8:12-13)
Therefore, let’s stop jousting with sin’s windmills, and instead seek God who can slay them.
