Thought for Today: “Who’s Searching Us”
There is a truism that says, “It’s better to be searched by God than by man.”
And this is usually because God is both gracious and merciful, human beings not so much. Further, man’s judgment seems to be a lot more judgmental, while God’s judgment is geared mainly at being correctional, when it comes to our sins and mistakes.
When facing the consequences of his sin, David chose to fall into the hands of a merciful God. He said, “I am in deep distress. Let us fall into the hands of the Lord, for his mercy is great; but do not let me fall into the hands of men.” (2 Samuel 24:14)
David knew of God’s correction in his judgment, which is why He prayed for God to search his heart to lead him in the right way to go.
Therefore, let’s offer up to God a prayer like David did in Psalm 139. He prayed, “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” (Psalm 139:23-24)
