Today’s 333 Devotional: “The Battle for the Mind”
There is nothing easy about living a Spirit-filled life, no matter how enticing some try to make it to be. Living a Spirit-filled life is a battle, which is why Paul tell us to put on the full armor of God.
He says, “Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” (Ephesians 6:11)
Paul minces no words and lets us know that we are in a battle, but it isn’t against any human foe or human army, but rather it is spiritual and against Satan and his demonic forces.
“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” (Ephesians 6:12)
And while the Bible makes it clear that the true nature of the battle is spiritual, the primary ground upon which this battle is fought is our thought life. This is why Paul tells us to take off the person who we were in all our sins and put on the new person we’ve become in all righteousness and holiness through renewing our mind (Ephesians 4:23).
The real tragedy of the church is that while we may worship and pray as Christians, we’re not really thinking as Christians.
Kent Hughes, pastor and author said, “The great scandal of today’s church (are) Christians without Christian minds.”
Now, while they say that we are what we eat, a more accurate description concerning who and what we are is that we are what we think.
Solomon said, “As a person thinks in their heart, that is who they are.” (Proverbs 23:7)
So, the battle begins within our minds.
This week we’ll be looking at God’s advice as we look at how to prepare our minds for action, how to guard access to our minds, and how to take every thought captive to the obedience to Christ.
