Today’s 333 Devotional: “Be Prepared”
I was a Boy Scout growing up. And this idea of always being prepared was a part of our motto. It tells us to keep ourselves physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight.
In much the same way the Lord is telling us to be prepared because we don’t know the day or hour of his return. This is brought out in the parable of the 10 virgins.
“At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish and five were wise. The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them. The wise ones, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps. The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.” (Matthew 25:1-5)
We are all going to get drowsy in our Christian walk. We know the Lord is coming; we just get a little tired of the waiting. Knowing this Jesus tells us to get prepared so that when we hear the trumpet of His coming, we will be ready to go.
The parable of the 10 virgins is directed towards the church. We are considered virgins because our sins are forgiven and we’re brand-new creations in Christ. And the sad commentary is that possibly half of the church will be left behind.
Further, the trumpet has sounded as we see evidence of Jesus return all around us and He is coming soon.
Are you ready? Are you prepared? Yes, you may be a little tired and may have even fallen asleep, but as you see these events unfolding and hear the trumpet sounding, are you prepared for His return?
To be prepared you need the oil of the Holy Spirit. He will lead and guide you. He will comfort and give you counsel and will lead you into all truth.
Be prepared because His return is imminent.
