Today’s 333 Devotional: “God’s Representatives”
In business I would see at least one company representative a day. These were individuals who tried to get my business so I could sell their product. They generally carried the full weight of their company to make whatever deals necessary to secure my account.
When God created humanity he endowed us with the power necessary to be His representatives here on earth.
“God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. God blessed them and said to them, ‘Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.’” (Genesis 1:27-28)
And while such rule is no longer ours because of sin, we’re still God’s representatives having been made in His image and likeness.
What does that mean? It means that we speak for God and act on His behalf. This is what the Apostle Paul says is our responsibility.
“We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.” (2 Corinthians 5:20)
Paul calls us “ambassadors.”
An ambassador is an authorized representative who speaks on behalf of their country to others and who carries the full weight of that country’s policies and beliefs.
This is our Great Commission given by Jesus. “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations.” (Matthew 28:19)
After His death, burial, and resurrection Jesus said, “Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.” (John 20:21)
God the Father sent Jesus to bear witness of Him in everything He said and did. In the same way, Jesus is sending us to bear witness of His saving grace in everything we say and do.
And so let’s be those representatives, those ambassadors God has called for us to be for Him.
