The Power To Turn It Around

Today’s 333 Devotional: “The Power To Turn It Around”

Consider two scenarios.

When Job lost everything he tore his robe, shaved his head, and fell to the ground to worship God.

“Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart. The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised.” (Job 1:21)

When Paul and Silas were unjustly tried, their clothes ripped from their bodies, beaten within an inch of their lives, and thrown into prison with their feet placed into stocks, they prayed and sang hymns to God.

“About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening to them.” (Acts 16:25)

After Satan afflicted Job with boils he took out a piece of broken pottery and scraped the boils, allowing them to ooze puss all over. He sat down in the midst of ashes, which was a sign of mourning. It goes on to say when his friends saw him they didn’t even recognize him and they then sat and mourned with him for several days.

Of Paul and Silas it says that as they were worshipping God rocked the house, prison doors were opened and the jailer and his family were saved.

The difference? Job knew God but his worship was through formalized rituals. Paul and Silas were filled with the Holy Spirit and worshipped in spirit and in truth. The difference was Paul and Silas knew the joy of the Lord, and no matter what the situation may be God’s divine joy empowered their lives.

No matter what we are facing in life, if we are children of God, if we are born again like Paul and Silas, then we can sing for joy and worship Him because of the power of the Holy Spirit Who is within us.

So look within to the Holy Spirit and allow Him to empower your life today, because He has the power to turn sorrow into joy.
