Today’s 333 Devotional: “It’s Never the Right Time for the Wrong Place”
Dinah, daughter of Jacob, found out the hard way that it’s never a good time to be in the wrong place putting yourself in a compromised position and potential danger.
After Jacob returned to the land of Canaan, he settled near the city of Shechem. Living only amongst her brothers and family, Dinah went to check out the city and her surroundings. Basically she wanted to see how the other girls of that city lived (Genesis 34:1).
Shechem was a city filled with idolatry and compromised values. Soon Dinah found herself in a place of danger. She was where she had no business being. She soon found herself compromised and raped.
In part of a teaching on being Men of Valor, a Navy seal said, “Don’t go where you know you’ll get your tail whipped.” We could say, “It’s never a good time to go to the wrong place.”
If you know you have a problem with pornography, be accountable to someone else and don’t be alone watching something you shouldn’t. If you have a problem with alcohol, don’t go to the bar to watch the game, instead stay home with someone who won’t drink.
We need to decide now not to go to those places or do those things that will make us stumble and fall. Instead, let’s make the decision to walk in the Spirit.
“Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.” (Galatians 5:16)
When we’re truthful and pray with others then we’ll find healing and freedom.
James 5:16 says, “Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.”
Jesus said that only truth would set us free (John 8:32).
We need to put on Jesus Christ so we don’t fulfill the lust of the flesh. Paul said, “Put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.” (Romans 13:14)
