Today’s 333 Devotional: “Our God is Greater”
When Sennacherib, King of Assyria, came against Jerusalem, King Hezekiah told his officers to be strong because “With him is an arm of flesh; but with us is the Lord our God, to help us and to fight our battles.” (2 Chronicles 32:7-8)
The end result: “The Lord saved Hezekiah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem from the hand of Sennacherib the king of Assyria.” (2 Chronicles 32:22)
We see the same with Elisha when he told his servant “Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them” (2 Kings 6:16). And then Elisha prayed for his servant’s eyes to be opened, and he saw the mountains surrounding the Syrian army full of horses and chariots of God’s army.
To Israel, Joshua gave these parting words, “One man of you shall chase a thousand, for the Lord your God is He who fights for you, as He promised you.” (Joshua 23:10)
And the Apostle John gives us these words of encouragement; “You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” (1 John 4:4)
While the coronavirus, cancel culture, rioters, and the anti-Christ movement seem strong, our God and His church are stronger. Of His church Jesus said, “On this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.” (Matthew 16:18)
While that disease, illness, layoffs, job loss, rising debt, unpaid bills seem insurmountable, our God can bring water from rocks, split open seas, deliver His people from captivity and bondage, raise the dead, and conquer death and the grave.
Therefore, don’t let the trials you face, draw you away from God. The writer of Hebrews, quoting the Lord through the prophet Habakkuk (2:3-4), said, “Now the just shall live by faith; but if anyone draws back, My soul has no pleasure in him.” (Hebrews 10:38)
