Thought For Today: “From Tragedy to Triumph”
Nothing speaks of the tragedy of death more than the clothes one is buried in. Grave clothes are something rarely mentioned or discussed due to the tragedy they represent.
Yet, these very grave clothes are one of the tangible evidence that Jesus rose from the dead. Not only was the stone rolled away and the tomb empty, but the grave clothes Jesus was wrapped in were left behind revealing that Jesus truly had risen.
“Then Simon Peter came, following him, and went into the tomb; and he saw the linen cloths lying there, and the handkerchief that had been around His head, not lying with the linen cloths, but folded together in a place by itself. Then the other disciple, who came to the tomb first, went in also; and he saw and believed.” (John 20:6-8)
These grave clothes left behind reveals that just as death no longer holds Jesus, death no longer has a hold over us, and that the tragedy of death is now a triumphal cry of eternal life in heaven for all those who believe.
“O Death, where is your sting? O Hades, where is your victory?” (1 Corinthians 15:55)
