Life Begins with Jesus
Life, abundant life now, and eternal life when this life is over is only available through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, who created all life in the beginning.
In the Gospel of John we read, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.” (John 1:1-3)
Consider the following from the creation account and then the ramifications.
It says that God on the third day God created the earth and said, “Let the earth bring forth … and the earth brought forth grass, the herb … and the tree.” (Genesis 1:11-12)
Then, on the fifth day, God created all that exists under the waters saying, “Let the waters abound with an abundance of living creatures … So God created great sea creatures and every living thing that moves, with which the waters abounded.” (Genesis 120-21)
And then on the sixth day, God created humanity saying, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness … So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” (Genesis 1:26-27)
What is interesting to note is that while God created all life, all the life He created came forth from either the ground or water. But humanity came forth from God Himself, in that God breathed His breath of life into Adam, who is the progenitor of humanity, and made him into a living being (Genesis 2:7).
Therefore, as we have seen from the Genesis account, and John’s Gospel, that while the Father spoke the words, Jesus took His words and fulfilled them, that is, He created what the Father proclaimed.
Now, what are the ramifications for our lives in what we have just seen in the creation account?
Think about it. If you disconnect the trees and sea creatures out of their natural habitat, that is, take a tree out of the ground, and a fish out of the water, they will die.
The same can be said about humanity. When humanity is disconnected from God, in whom we were created from, then humanity will likewise die, because God is our natural environment, just like earth is a tree’s natural environment, and water is the natural environment for fish.
Now, when Adam and Eve sinned, they were removed, not only from the Garden of Eden, but also from the presence of God, because God is too pure and holy to have sin in His presence.
The prophet Habakkuk tells us that the Lord is “of purer eyes than to behold evil, and cannot look on wickedness.” (Habakkuk 1:13)
And to Moses, the Lord said, “You cannot see My face; for no man shall see Me, and live.” (Exodus 33:20)
And so to bring humanity back into a right relationship with God, as it was in the beginning, the Father sent Jesus to be the light that shines in the darkness of our sin and bring us into everlasting life.
About Jesus the Apostle John goes on the say, “In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.” (John 1:4)
And Jesus said, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” (John 8:12)
Jesus also gives us this hope saying, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6)
And so, for us to get reconnected with God to have that eternal life and relationship with Him, we need to come to Jesus Christ as accept Him as our Savior and Lord.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.” (John 3:16-17)
